چکیده

A healthy 17-year-old boy reported worsening vision in the right eye since childhood. On presentation, visual acuity was counting fingers in the right eye and 20/20 in the left eye; intraocular pressure was within normal limits. Fovea-involving chronic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) with retinal dialysis and subretinal bands was identified in the right eye, while there was macular subretinal fluid (SRF) and foveasparing asymptomatic RRD with retinal dialysis in the left eye. The patient underwent scleral buckling and cryotherapy in both eyes. Twelve months after presentation, with interval decrease in SRF, vision improved to 20/400 in the right eye and was 20/20 in the left eye. Our case describes an otherwise healthy adolescent male with bilateral rhegmatogenous retinal detachment secondary to non-traumatic spontaneous retinal dialysis. Bilateral spontaneous retinal dialyses are rare but may occur in pediatric patients. Scleral buckling and cryotherapy resulted in anatomical success in both eyes.

Traumatic retinal detachment.

Seventy-seven patients developed retinal breaks following an episode of ocular contusion, and 65 (84.4%) of these developed rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Surgical treatment successfully restored or maintained retinal apposition in 74 (96.1%) of the eyes. Thirty-six (46.8%) eyes recovered visual acuity of 6/9 or better. Of the retinal breaks recognised dialysis at the ora serrata was observ...

Bilateral Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment during External Beam Radiotherapy

Herein, we report a case of nontraumatic bilateral rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) during external beam radiotherapy for nonocular tumor, presented as an observational case study in conjunction with a review of the relevant literature. A 65-year-old male was referred to our hospital due to bilateral RRD. He underwent a biopsy for a tumor of the left frontal lobe 4 months prior to presen...

Scleral Buckling in the Treatment of Retinal Detachment Due to Retinal Dialysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE To describe clinical features and outcomes of scleral buckle surgery as treatment for patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment caused by retinal dialysis. PATIENTS AND METHODS Nonrandomized, consecutive case series. All patients underwent encircling scleral buckle for retinal detachment secondary to retinal dialysis. Visual acuity (VA) and retinal attachment st...

The fellow eye of patients with phakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment from atrophic holes of lattice degeneration without posterior vitreous detachment.

BACKGROUND Primary phakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) without posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) represents a unique clinical entity that behaves differently from RRD associated with PVD. While previous studies have reported the long term findings in the fellow eye of patients with RRD and PVD, the outcome of the fellow eye of patients with RRD without PVD is not known. METHODS C...

[Bilateral spontaneously reattached rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Case report and differential diagnosis with pigmentary retinopathies].

BACKGROUND A dark pigmentation of the ocular fundus presents in degenerative diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa; this disease must be distinguished from others whose evolution is not progressive, in order to estimate the functional prognosis of the patient. OBJECTIVE To analyze the features which distinguish spontaneously reattached retinal detachment from other causes of ocular fundus pig...
